Stacey and I have been blessed…….. a lot.

A whole lot.

The past four years have been a blur for us, as husband and wife, students, professionals, and business owners. What started as a little side money to help out with Stacey’s imminent grad school bills in mid-2005, has evolved into a full-time, 35 wedding-per-year, wedding and portrait studio.

While we’d like to take credit for how our business has grown, we honestly and truthfully can’t.

It’s been the support structure of our closest friends and family, paired with some amazing wedding clients that were willing to go out on a limb and book two “newbies” for their big day. It’s been our awesome fellow photographers in both Alabama, the U.S., and across the world, who’ve supported us as people, and as a growing studio.

It’s been so many things, that we wouldn’t know where to start with mailing out “Thank You” cards.

For those of you who know Stacey and I, you’re familiar with the little balancing act that we’ve been putting on over the past four years. Stacey is in the last five weeks of a three-year journey towards becoming a physical therapist, while I’ve been splitting my time between the communications department at Birmingham-Southern College, and running the day-to-day operations of Gresham Photography.

We’ve both been SO grateful to be able to come together most weekends out of the year, and celebrate with a loving couple on one of the biggest days of their lives. But with our studio’s growth, finding the time and energy to pursue all three of our passions has become increasingly more difficult.

Late nights after work editing images, early mornings of studying for grad school finals, and more and more requests for shooting out-of-town and out-of-country weddings have led us to make a big decision.

A decision that we’re both very excited and extremely nervous about at the same time.

We’ve decided that at the end of 2009, I will be leaving my job at Birmingham-Southern College, to focus 100% on Gresham Photography.

This has been anything BUT an easy decision.

The folks at BSC, especially my boss Bill, have been amazingly supportive of me … not just with my work for the college, but for our photography as well. Stacey and I have spent a couple of months trying to figure out a way that I could continue to pursue two passions, without sacrificing my energy and devotion for either.

And honestly, we just couldn’t find a way.

I’ve had an amazing time working with all the folks at BSC, and will truly miss the campus and everyone who works there. At the same time, Stacey and I are currently transitioning to me working with the photography business 24/7. It’s already been in the works for a month or so now, as we prepare for the end of 2009 and the beginning of a new wedding year.

With my move to managing our studio full-time comes a small army of other very exciting announcements. A lot of these are still in the planning and implementation stages, but we’ll be sure to update you all when we can!

Stacey and I are confident that 2010 will be our best year yet as a photography team. We’ve got some amazing clients in 2010, whose weddings we’re sure will be beautiful and memorable!

If you’ve reached this far in our little rant, I’d like to thank you for your patience! :-p We’re so excited for what the future holds for our family, friends, and Gresham Photography!
