Monday #3

So it didn’t take us long to miss a blog post! Only two weeks to be exact! But since it was Memorial Day last Monday, we figured that was enough of an excuse to let us off the hook!

We’re in the midst of what can only be called “the crazy time” of our wedding season! 13 weddings in 12 weeks might not seem like a lot to our fellow photogs, but Stacey and I are a little out-of-shape these days, so we’re having to work our tails off to keep up! The odd thing is, no matter how busy we get, or what challenges we face, we’re still loving every minute of it! The pictures coming out of our handy-dandy cameras, the clients we’re interacting with and shooting to death at the same time …. it’s a blast!

Lately Stacey and I have been working hard on finding new inspiration. It’s not that we don’t like our old inspirations …. but if you’ve been in this business for more than 15 minutes you begin to realize that there’s a lot of photographers out there doing really amazing things on a daily basis. So we’ve been trying to re-focus our picture takin’ just a smidge, and try and keep it fresh every time we pick up the camera!

Stacey usually find her inspiration in a place like Real Simple Magazine, while I’m drawn to a more photojournalism inspiration board ….. such as the Boston Globe’s Big Picture Blog.

A lot of our current clients are running into similar creative issues as they plan for the big day. There’s a ton of weddings going on every weekend, which means that creative and new ideas are a little hard to come by! One of our brides-to-be recently asked us for some places she might look to find inspiration for helping make her big day beautiful, and we passed on some of our favorite inspirational sites for weddings. Here’s just a few of the many places we recommend!

Southern Weddings
Style Me Pretty
The Weddings Chicks
Elizabeth Anne Designs
Wedding Bee
The Bride’s Cafe

And what better way to find some awesome inspiration than in the amazing wedding photographers out there?! We’ve found photographers all over the world that blow us away with every new picture they post! Here’s a few of our fellow wedding photographers that never cease to amaze and inspire us …

Jose Villa – California
Jessica Claire – California
Melia Sorenson – Vancouver
Anna Kuperberg – California
Michael Norwood – California
Bobbi and Mike – Indianapolis
Chenin Boutwell – California
Sarah K. Chen – California
Bryan Johnson – Birmingham

As you can see …. we do alot of blog stalking! And yes, we do have a small addiction to California photographers…

And finally, just some random picture love! Here’s one of my absolute favorite baby portraits in a LONG time, from Bobbi+Mike

And one of the coolest sets of self portraits I’ve seen in a long time! (Didn’t hurt that they were in Italy!) … The Image is Found

Happy Monday!

Monday #2

So it turned in to a crazy busy weekend this past week for Stacey and I, but we had a great time shooting Anna and Jack’s wedding here in town, and celebrating a graduation with some of our family! Needless to say, our blog stalking and picture finding skills have been lacking these past days!

One of our favorite photographers out there right now, California’s own Sarah K. Chen, has been throwing down some amazing picture goodness on her blog recently!

She is a detail master, and I’m so excited for the opportunity I have to shoot with her later this year in Michigan. It’ll definitely be a highlight of our crazy photo year!

If you haven’t already been reminded enough, Mother’s Day was yesterday! Stacey and I took a moment to thank our mom’s as well as some of our clients’ mothers as well! Check it out here … http://simple-color.com/blog/?p=1639

The blogosphere was alive the past few days though, with a ton of awesome ode-to-mommy posts! Here’s some of our favorites!

If you haven’t heard about our weight loss competition yet, we’re taking entries through this Saturday, so you’ve still got time to weigh in!!! http://simple-color.com/blog/?p=1509

Stacey and I are getting VERY excited for our wedding over in Atlanta this weekend! We’ll be hanging out with Christie and Chris (Here’s their engagement post) at the Primose Cottage in Roswell. There’s sure to be some AWESOME places to shoot!

That’s all for now!!!

MONDAY #1

Stacey and I have decided to share a quick few random thoughts about photography, life and anything else that no one but my mom might care to know about! We’re planning to post some of our favorite links and photos from the past week.

Not all of it will be photography-related, but hopefully we’ll be able to send some helpful hints to all of our clients, fellow photographers and resident blog stalkers! So here it goes!

– Judging from our branding, you’ve probably figured out that we’re HUGE fans of color at weddings! I saw this little “Details” piece on Southern Weddings last week and loved all the vibrant colors!

– There are some big things in the works for us down the road, and this not-so-subtle hint from the ladies at Elizabeth Anne Designs is an awesome inspiration board for anyone looking to deck out their office/workspace. Again with the color thing … :-p

– We had an amazing time with Quinn and Deborah on Saturday, and I have to say that this is one of my favorite bride shots in a long time!

– This picture was taken by the awesome Bryan Johnson over at A Bryan Photo. (The second to top image in the linked post!) It was from a wedding earlier this year in Norway, and we’ve been waiting anxiously for a big blog post! I personally loved this shot because of how cozy and intimate it feels, but how elegant the veil looks over the chair. Awesome!

– My brother and his wife have started up a blog documenting their journey towards adopting a child from South Korea. Stacey and I are really excited about the possble opportunity to travel to Asia with them when they go to meet their little on! Check out their blog.

I also found this cool new web tool that allows you to advertise and sell stuff via your social networking sites.

http://www.putacart.com

Similar to an Amazon listing, except you manage it via their dashboard, and you can list it on places like Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter. Maybe now I can offload some of our old camera gear that’s been lying around for WAY too long!

Stacey and I are getting a little fed up with this fiesty Alabama weather! It seems like it has been forever since we’ve had one solid week of good weather days! Yesterday we got treated to a funnel cloud crossing over our house, which meant a trip into our guest bathroom with the dogs. Here’s a quick photo I twittered during all the fun! (Apologies in advance for the toilet in the background! It is, after all, a working bathroom :-p)

And finally, here’s some of the fun stuff Stacey and I are taking on this week!

- Blogging about a new weight-loss competition we’re creating (This was supposed to go live last week, but we’re still working out some of the plans!)
- Shooting Laura’s sure-to-be-amazing bridal session
- Shooting Anna and Jack’s big day at St. Thomas Episcopal Church
