Inner-city lacrosse

I had the awesome opportunity earlier today to go cover an inner-city lacrosse camp for Birmingham-area youth. It was really cool to see these kids strap on the gear and go to town, and they definitely picked the game up a lot faster than I ever would!

The program was designed around giving these kids a different kind of activity to do over their spring break, as well as teach them about a little-known sport here in the Deep South. Props to the lacrosse coaches at my Birmingham-Southern College and also to the folks over at Mountain Brook High School lacrosse for their support!

Here’s just a couple of quick frames that I liked…

Birmingham-Southern Reunion/Homecoming 2008

I spent this past weekend hanging out on campus at BSC, celebrating the school’s Reunion/Homecoming celebration 2008. The weekend also doubled as the inaugural home game in the state-of-the-art Panther Stadium. Friday night, we welcomed a ton of BSC alumni to campus for some class parties, receptions, and reminiscing. Saturday was packed full of football, food, and some awesome music by Whiskey Falls. Here’s some of my favorites from the past few days!

There was a Mommy and Me event held on Friday for mothers and their kids to enjoy creating some awesome BSC banners to wave at the football game…

It didn’t take much for the students to get into the homecoming mood…

Friday night also brought the annual President’s Reception to the gorgeous Admission Welcome Center. One of the highlights of the night was getting to meet BSC’s oldest alumna. She’s 101 years young and is in better shape than me.

I also spent some time at the BSC Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet. We have an awesome display on campus in the Coliseum showing off all of the hall of fame members who’ve come before…

Then it was on to the student pep rally and bonfire…

There was some great tailgating going on Saturday morning…

followed by the pre-game ceremonies in Panther Stadium. BSC president Dr. Pollick presented all the athletes who will be using the new stadium to the crowd before the homecoming game.

The national anthem…

and BSC Athletic Director Joe Dean firing up the crowd…

The BSC class of 1958 donned some very trendy BSC hats for the game…

Then it was time to crown the homecoming king and queen…

A little cheering and a little football…

Then it was on to the post game shrimp boil and band party with Whiskey Falls…

My boss Bill and his wife…

My boss Bill and his trash can…

And finally, Whiskey Falls rockin’ into the night…

I know this doesn’t really fall into the wedding category. But I really wanted to take a minute and show off some of the awesome things going on at Birmingham-Southern. It was truly a memorable weekend and I’ve got the sun and wind burn to prove it!

Birmingham-Southern Football

If there’s one thing I like more than watching football, it’s getting to shoot it. I’m lucky to have the opportunity to shoot at all of Birmingham-Southern College’s home games this year (perk of the job), and it was a gorgeous day today for football. Sad to say the Panthers lost in the last 30 seconds of the game 31-34, but it’s great to get back on the field and shoot. Here’s some of my favorites!
